On September 16, 2019, AirAsia removed the Penang - Hanoi route for its aircraft services. There is also information about AirAsia removing one more route from its services on October 25, 2019, which is Penang to Phuket in southern Thailand. The winner of the recent ‘Best Airline’ award in the Andaman Tourism Awards, the aviation company is looking to scale down its operations from one more route after this. This would mean a total of three routes will be cancelled by AirAsia. The third axed route is said to be of the Kuching to Jakarta on October 25, 2019, too.
AirAsia Looking to Start New Services Despite Low Season
AirAsia started new direct services to the north Thai destination. There is a reason behind it, it is done to coincide with the end of the tourist season. Therefore, flights from Macau, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Phuket out of Chiang Rai became a mess for AirAsia because of the low season that had set in.
AirAsia Not the Only One Axing Routes
Due to the low season, AirAsia is not the only one axing routes from its services. Some of the popular airlines are at it too. Recently Vietnam Airlines reduced one of the flights from its daily schedule of two flights back and forth from Ho Chi Minh City to Taipei which will start from October 27, 2019.
