People have been angry since their flights got cancelled and they did not get their money back. Every airline is offering credit shells instead of the money back to the customers. This has led to a lot of dissatisfaction amongst the people. Airlines will have to provide refunds to the customers though, said aviation ministry recently. Every passenger who booked their flights in between the period of March 25 and May 3 should get their money back from the airlines. Other people will not be eligible for refunds, but airlines can still offer them credit shells.
Airlines Are Not In a Position To Provide Refunds To Customers
Some of the senior airline executives said that even though the government has mandated the refunds to be processed, the airlines are going to oppose the decision. Regardless of the less number of customers that will get their money back, if the airlines lose on more cash, they will be in more problems. Very simply put, airlines are not in a position to provide refunds to customers. The aviation industry is already in its worst-ever condition as there is no influx of cash from any sources and government is not hinting about any bailout package.
Airlines In India Are Offering Credit Shells Instead Of Refunds
No airline at the moment can afford to lose on cash except the budget carrier IndiGo. Every airline is in a tight spot and is looking to come out of it as soon as the commercial operations are allowed by the government. If the flights resume on May 4, people can use their credit shells to book new flights tickets with the same amount as of original booking. Any difference in base fare is applicable. It will be interesting to see which way the decision goes to. People are angry, and airlines can’t lose out on cash.
