Chennai airport will soon get a multiplex! PVR Cinemas has started constructing multiplex theatres inside the multi-level car-parking space in the airport, according to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The construction is expected to be completed in a span of five months.

The passengers arriving at Chennai airport can enter the multi-level car parking through the link bridge. The theatre will be on the top floor of the airport. The authorities have also completed building a link bridge for the purpose. The theatre will be capable of accommodating around 1000 people.

The theatre primarily intends to serve the travellers who might arrive at Chennai airport early to catch their flights. It would also benefit the transit passengers who currently scout for shops at the airports or stare at mobile screens endlessly to pass the time. In addition to the people for air travel, residents of South Chennai, near the place, can visit the Chennai airport theatre. They can park their vehicles in the complex and climb up a few stairs to reach the theatre.

The multi-level car parking area at Chennai airport will also expand soon. The place will accommodate shopping outlets, hypermarkets and dining areas to serve the residents in the nearby locations. According to the officials of AAI, all facilities will soon be open to the public.

Traffic at Chennai Airport Witnessed a Sharp Increase

This is a 20% increase when compared to November 2021, when around 10.75 lakhs people took flights from Chennai airport. The majority of the people are found to be heading towards other metros like Delhi and Mumbai. The new COVID-19 variant Omicron, which is now fast spreading across the nation, will likely decrease the passenger traffic in January and February 2022.
