The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) will be offering free round trip tickets to customers in India. The airport body has further signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government-owned airline Air India. Under the deal, passengers who are travelling through the airline can avail of a 15% to 20% discount on anything they purchase from the Cochin Duty-Free shop at the international departure terminal.

Further, according to a report from the PTI, any traveller, regardless of the airline he/she is flying with stands a chance to win a free round trip ticket from the airport if they are making purchases through the Cochin Duty Free shop. Note that the CIAL will choose the passengers eligible for a free ticket through a lucky draw.

Coming back to the MoU, the deal was signed between CIAL and Air India Express on Tuesday. Aloke Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Air India, and S Suhas, Managing Director, CIAL signed the deal.

According to the statement of Singh, Air India Express is the single largest international airline operator from CIAL in terms of the number of flights. How fruitful this deal between the companies would be is something that is still left to be seen. It is also worth noting that Air India Express is the largest international airline operator in Kerala.

Since Kerala is one of the most attractive tourist places throughout India, once things come back to normal, Air India Express would stand a chance to make a lot of revenues with the partnerships it is building now.

Singh said that CIAL is a very unique airport both in terms of architecture and its green initiative and reinstated that the airline holds its relationship with the airport body very dearly. It will be interesting to see how this fuels the growth of the airline.
