Once the lockdown is lifted and commercial flights are allowed to resume, you will have to follow the new rules and procedures set by the authorities. The Civil Aviation Ministry has come out with a draft of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for restarting commercial flights. According to the new draft, you are not going to be allowed to carry any cabin luggage. Apart from that, you will have to show up at the airport at least two hours before the scheduled departure of your flight. With this, your smartphone must have the Aarogya Setu app installed and it should reflect a green status for your profile.
Passengers to Web Check-in and Follow Social Distancing
All the passengers will have to go for web check-in, so if you don’t know how to do it, learn it fast. Every passenger entering or exiting the airport will be checked with a thermal machine to ensure their body temperature is normal. Along with this, the SOP suggests that cabin crew for a flight should not be changed and should remain the same for as long as possible to avoid the chances of cross-contamination. With this, new rules for the security personnel are in place as well. For checking someone’s identity card, a security person needs to be close to them and touch their ID card to see it. Now, all the procedures for identity checking are going to be modified as well.
Passengers to Fill Questionnaires Before Boarding
Every passenger who is going to board a flight will have to fill up a questionnaire which will ask them about their history-related with COVID-19 for the last one month. If any passenger is found who went under quarantine within one month from the date of boarding, he/she will be checked by security in an isolated unit. Notably, there wasn’t anything mentioned about leaving the middle seats of the aircraft vacant to ensure social distancing. The airlines are against the rule anyway. SpiceJet and other international airlines such as Qantas along with IATA don’t believe in the effectiveness of leaving the middle seats vacant. It would only add to the cost of the airfares.
