Domestic airline service will begin from Kannur International Airport on the inaugural day itself, says an exclusive report by a Malayalam news channel Media One. GoAir will launch the service to Trivandrum on the day. The flight that departs Kannur airport at 3 pm will arrive in Trivandrum at 4 pm.
On the day, the airline will reach the airport at 12.20 pm from Bengaluru. The fare from Bengaluru to Kannur is Rs. 2013. The standard airfare cost to Trivandrum is Rs. 2948, and the flexi rate costs Rs. 3395. The airline has not announced the opening of bookings for the other days. GoAir has also applied for permission to begin services to other destinations -- Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai – and is awaiting clearance from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The airline will also launch international services to Doha, Muscat and Dammam, added the report.
Kannur International Airport Inauguration
Kannur International Airport will be inaugurated on 9 December 2018 jointly by Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Civil Aviation; and Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala. The dignitaries will flag off Air India’s inaugural flight to Abu Dhabi on the day.
Other Airlines
Other airlines IndiGo and SpiceJet are also awaiting clearance to start services from Kannur International airport. IndiGo is expected to start the services by the mid of January 2019. The foreign airlines have also submitted proposals to DGCA for starting services from Kannur. At a press conference, KIAL Managing Director V. Thulasidas said that the authorities are expecting around 10-13 flights from Kannur soon.
The airport will also accommodate services operating under UDAN project, regional airport development and regional connectivity scheme of Government of India.
