In-Flight Wi-Fi First Made Possible in India by Vistara

Although Indian aviation industry has been growing at an unprecedented rate owing to the heavy demand and the fierce competition between the carriers, there is one thing that the Indian flyers did not have access to and it was the in-flight internet connectivity, or simply in-flight connectivity (IFC). However, this might soon change and leading the change would be the popular full-service carrier in India, Vistara. The jointly owned airline by Tata Sons and Singapore International Airlines (SIA), Vistara would be the first carrier in India to deploy in-flight connectivity in its wide-body Boeing 787 Dreamliners in the coming months.

In-Flight Connectivity to Happen First in Medium Haul Flights

It is worth noting that the carrier has placed an order for the Boeing 787 Dreamliners which will start joining the Vistara fleet in February. These planes will be used in medium haul flights like to London and Tokyo from March-end. Vistara has currently placed orders for 6 Boeing 787 Dreamliners with an additional order of four more such aircrafts. The in-flight connectivity would be deployed in these aircrafts first. Whether or not the in-flight connectivity would be available in Airbus A320s or not, would be decided on a later stage.

Vistara Partners Up With Nelco to Provide In-Flight Connectivity

Telecom Secretary, Anshu Prakash has remarked about this new development saying that the carrier has partnered up with Nelco, which has taken transponder space from ISRO. The spectrum allocation for the services has also been done, as such, Vistara should be introducing these services shortly.
