The Interglobe Aviation owned airline in India, IndiGo, happens to be the biggest low-cost carrier and also the biggest airline in India owing to its massive market share which is close to half of the total flights in India. In a new update, IndiGo has announced that it would be adding Agra as its 63rd domestic destination. Agra would be 86th destination in IndiGo’s network that it would start servicing. IndiGo has added Agra as its destination under the government’s regional connectivity scheme called UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) which aims at connecting the tier-II cities of India by air and establishing new airports.
Agra to be Fifth Serviceable City in UP
In Uttar Pradesh, Agra would be the fifth city to get air connectivity from IndiGo. Other cities in Uttar Pradesh which have air connectivity include Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Varanasi. The first city to be connected by Agra would be Bangalore on which, IndiGo will operate daily non-stop flights starting March 5, 2020.
Chief Commercial Officer of IndiGo, William Boulter remarked about this, “It gives us immense pleasure to announce Agra as the 63rd domestic destination in our network. These flights will enable us to offer point-to-point connectivity from a city which houses one of the wonders of the world, witnesses an exceptional tourist footfall, and hence high demand for connectivity. Operating exclusively on the Agra-Bangalore route under the government’s UDAN scheme, IndiGo flights will promote trade and tourism in the region through increased mobility.”
IndiGo Fleet Crosses 250 Planes
It is also worth noting that at the start of this month, IndiGo has become the first Indian carrier to boast of having more than 250 aircrafts to its name. The low-cost airline has taken delivery of a total of 257 planes from Airbus. The carrier is also flying more than 1,500 flights per day which is the most number of flights for any carrier in India. A small chunk of the new deliveries also includes the wide-body Airbus A321neos as well which the carrier uses on international destinations.
