IndiGo and Air India Cancel Flights to China Due to Corona Virus Outbreak

The outbreak of Corona virus has sent a frenzy through the country and people who are especially travelling to popular airports connecting China have been in fear. Seeing the severity of the threat, Indian airlines have also responded and cancelled their routes connecting China in the light of the recent events. IndiGo has cancelled its flight connecting Bengaluru to Hong Kong starting February 1, and the Delhi-Chengdu route of IndiGo has also been cancelled from February 1, to February 20. The national carrier Air India has also responded to the situation saying that it has cancelled its Delhi-Shanghai route from January 31, to February 14.

Flights to China Cancelled

However, amongst these cancelled routes, IndiGo will continue to operate the Kolkata-Guangzhou route. But, at the same time, airline has remarked that the route is being monitored. The low-cost carrier also said that it is ensuring that the operating crew comes back to India without any lay-over in China. The report comes from Livemint. Not only this, but the low cost carrier, IndiGo has also conveyed it to all its operating crew to wear N95 masks at all times when they are on the ground if they are operating in East Asian countries like Thailand, Singapore and others. 

Air India Also Asks Crew to Wear Masks

Similarly, Air India’s crew has also been asked to wear the N95 masks when they are on the ground. However, the crew has been told not to wear the masks while on flight. IndiGo has also issued an official statement on the matter saying, "After carefully assessing the current coronavirus situation in China, IndiGo is taking some safety measures for its customers, crew and staff. Due to China travel restrictions, we have seen a high number of cancellations from China on our Delhi-Chengdu route and vice versa.”

Corona Virus: 7,000 Confirmed Cases

It is worth noting that the Corona virus is a new strain of virus which has emerged from the Wuhan province in China and has claimed 132 lives till now with more than 7,000 confirmed cases across the world. While the virus is mostly limited to China, a little over 100 confirmed cases have been found across other countries.
