Indigo Becomes Sixth Largest Carrier Globally as it Flew Over 2 Million Passengers in March

A new report from UK-based Official Airline Guide (OAG) which is a leading global travel data provider informs that IndiGo was the world’s sixth-largest carrier by passenger volume in March. According to the data, more than 2.02 million passengers travelled via Indigo airline last month making it the only Indian carrier to make the list.

Indigo has been on top of the chain in the aviation sector when it comes to India. The leading budget carrier of the country has been leaving behind its competitors for a while now when it comes to factors such as the number of passengers carried, fleet size, and on-time performance. Indigo has not only been a frontrunner in India but now has emerged as one of the top performers globally as it joins the list of top 10 global airlines.

Indigo’s Success

A new report from UK-based Official Airline Guide (OAG) which is a leading global travel data provider informs that Indigo was the world’s sixth-largest carrier by passenger volume in March. According to the data, more than 2.02 million passengers travelled via Indigo airline last month making it the only Indian carrier to make the list. In addition to this, the airline offered a total of 47,883 seats in March which helped it get in the top 10 list of airlines globally in terms of seats offered.

Indigo managed to place itself in the 8th position as it witnessed a 41% increase from last month’s performance. Talking about the success of the airline, OAG stated that Indigo is one of the fastest-growing airlines, with frequency seeing an increase of 41.3% when adjusted to allow for the difference in days in the month. This equates to almost an additional 14,000 flights compared to last month. Indigo is now operating at 14.7% more frequency than in March 2019. Airline’s success without any doubt came on the back of its efficient business model and surgical approach to low-cost operations.
