Indigo to Withdraw Flights

The largest domestic airline Indigo has said in a statement on Sunday that it will be cancelling around 20% of its flights as the country witnessed a significant surge in the number of cases of Covid-19 with the widespread Omicron variant. The airline will also be waiving off the change fees till March 31, 2022 keeping in mind the consumer needs. For those unaware, change fees is paid by a customer while changing the flight to a different date.

Indigo Waives off Change Fees

According to a report from PTI, the airline stated in a press release that a majority of the indigo passengers are changing their travel plans due to the rising cases of infections in the country. It further stated that Indigo will be waiving change fees and will be offering free changes for new and existing bookings made up to January 31 for flights up to March 31, keeping in mind the consumer needs. The airline also went on to state that it might be pulling out some flights from service due to a decrease in demand for travel.

The airline stated that it is expecting around 20% of its flights currently scheduled for operation will be withdrawn from the service. In the press release, the airline also mentioned that the airline will be cancelling the flights at least 72 hours in advance. As far as the customers for the cancelled flights are cancelled, they will be moved to the next available flight and will also have an option of changing their travel via the Plan B section available on the airline’s website. The airline has also suggested that customers should opt for digital channels for queries as the call centres have been handling many calls.

There have already been reports of Indigo cancelling its flights to Kolkata, Bagdogra and Durgapur from Mumbai and Delhi following the announcement of the West Bengal government which imposed restrictions on flights arriving from Delhi and Mumbai in the light of rising cases of Omicron variant of Covid-19.
