Kannur International Airport authorities have requested Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation for Flybus service from Mysuru, Virajpet and Madikeri to the Kannur airport. The bus connectivity will help the flyers from Mysuru and Kodagu regions.

MD of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Shivayogi Kalasad confirmed the request from Kannur International airport to The Hindu and also said that it had given a positive response to the initiative. However, the authorities of Kannur airport has to gain necessary permissions from the Kerala government for the operation of the bus services.

Kannur Airport Fly Bus

Kannur airport is situated at a distance of 200 km from Mysuru. The other alternative for the flyers from Mysuru is Kempegowda International Airport Ltd (KIAL) located in the outskirts of Bengaluru, which is 185 km away from the region. The road journey to Kannur is less cumbersome than the one to KIAL, according to sources. The roadway to KIAL has to depend on Bengaluru-Mysuru highway before navigating through the traffic-dense roads of Bengaluru city, which makes the journey longer.

However, for passengers from Madikeri, Virajpet and other regions of Kodagu, Kannur airport is the closer option available. While a regular bus service will take about five hours and 30 minutes for the journey between Kannur and Mysuru, Flybus can cover the distance in four hours. Currently, KSRTC operates three services to Kannur every day, including one Volvo bus.

Kannur International Airport serves passengers from Kannur, Kasaragod, Wayanad, Kozhikode in Kerala and Kodagu and Mysuru in Karnataka. The airport is expected to benefit tourism in these areas as these regions are within easy reach from Kannur.
