Students are heading back to schools and colleges after nearly two years of the pandemic, and according to India's largest online travel portal MakeMyTrip, there has been a 60% spike in searches and reservations from and for students during the first two weeks of February compared to prior weeks.

According to MakeMyTrip, there has been a huge increase in air travel from non-metros to metros, as students return to their educational base. Flight reservations by students on the platform between non-metros and metros increased by double between February 1 and 15, this year. Bookings for flights from Kolkata to Bengaluru, Guwahati to Delhi, Lucknow to Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar to Delhi, Kolkata to Chennai, Guwahati to Bengaluru, Kochi to Delhi, and Lucknow to Delhi increased by over 100% in February.

Approximately 80% of the searches are for travelling within the next two weeks, indicating a gradual increase in reservations for quick travel. As additional colleges around the nation announce the start of offline sessions in the coming days, the booking window is projected to narrow even more, with many students reserving tickets within a few days of the date of travel, according to the business.

The firm also offers a 'Reward Young Minds referral programme,' which allows students to earn credit and receive further savings on their next travel booked through the site.
