Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is witnessing a string of enhancements in its amenities, the latest being the addition of app-based cab services for passengers. The travellers arriving at Trivandrum airport can now grab a taxi from domestic and international terminals. The passengers can book for the service via the mobile app or approach the dedicated prepaid taxi counters at both terminals to book taxis.

The app-based cab service has been a long-pending request from passengers. There were complaints about taxi drivers charging exorbitant costs for the journeys from various corners. Last year, an actor Meera Nair took to social media sharing her nightmare experience at Thiruvananthapuram airport. She alleged that the police supported the prepaid taxi drivers, which made it impossible for the passengers to choose any other option but settle for the hefty charges they levy.

Against the allegation, the Secretary of Airport Taxi Drivers’ and Cleaners’ Association, Sutharsanan P., said that there is no such practice of heavy fare issues at the airport, and all journeys are charged as per the distance covered. He also mentioned that the union members do not charge any additional charges.

There are 318 prepaid cabs available at Trivandrum airport. The newly introduced app-based cab service at the airport is available round-the-clock. The authorities have ensured all preparations for providing a hassle-free service to the passengers. The minimum parking fees have been fixed at Rs 30 for 30 minutes.

A week ago, Adani Group opened a luxurious lounge named ‘The Bird’ at the airport. Located at level one of the international terminal, the lounge accommodates various world-class facilities, live counters and a buffet with cuisines from different parts of India.

Adani Group took over the management and operations of Trivandrum airport in October 2021. The Group will undertake its responsibilities for a period of 50 years.
