The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has granted permission to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to check the passengers’ handbags without removing the laptops and fluid items from it. This experimental arrangement will be practised at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi; Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai; and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad.
“On an experimental basis, BCAS has allowed handbag scanners where laptops, liquids item not to be taken out at Delhi and Mumbai airport for security check,” ANI quoted Rajesh Chandra, Director General, BCAS.
This arrangement is expected to speed up the security checks at the airports. Although the trial duration is unknown, the authorities will solidify the process only after modification and clearance from all concerned departments.
Digi-Yatra Makes Boarding of Flights Paperless
The airport authorities along with the Civil Aviation Ministry is trying to enforce measures to reduce the queues at airports. One such is Digi Yatra, an initiative that will allow the passengers to board flights using facial recognition technology. This requires the passengers to register on a Digi Yatra platform and also to use the Digi Yatra unique ID for booking tickets.
Currently deployed in airports of Varanasi, Pune, Kolkata and Vijayawada, this will make boarding of flights paperless. The system will also be operational at Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The passengers registering at the portal will also receive other benefits such as real-time notifications about flight status, congestion, baggage status, and so on.
