The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has signed a technical assistance agreement with the US-based aviation giant Boeing to modernize the air traffic management of the country. For the purpose, the duo will develop a roadmap within 18 months. The project will also have financial assistance from the United States Trade Development Agency (USTDA).
As a part of the project, Boeing will scrutinize the existing air traffic management technologies used in India. It will also work closely with the civil aviation regulator the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), airlines, airport operators and other technical stakeholders.
The modernization process will primarily focus on the betterment of the existing communication system, navigation aspects, and security, thereby enhancing the airspace capacity of the country. The improvement will eventually lead to safe processing and deployment of additional flights in the airspace.
The implementation of modern technologies and global practices will allow India to increase its airspace capacity significantly by improving communications, enabling flexible use of airspace and allowing the safe processing of additional flights using air navigation infrastructure for smoother and more efficient skies in India, said AAI Chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra.

President of Boeing India Salil Gupte responded, India is experiencing unprecedented growth in civil aviation. With this kind of growth comes the need for safe and efficient aircraft operations as well as improving the airport infrastructure.
According to Kenneth I. Juster, the US Ambassador to India, the agreement between India and Boeing will lead to better collaborations on aviation front. We look forward to such opportunities where both countries can utilize their expertise and innovation to develop blueprints for cutting-edge technologies for the future, he said.
AAI has also taken initiatives to reduce carbon emissions from air services.
