GoAir Starts Deploying TaxiBots at IGI Airport New Delhi for Better Fuel Efficiency and Checking Sound Pollution

Web Stories

In order to save on fuels and also keep a check on sound pollution, more and more airlines are opting for TaxiBots as their choice of towing vehicle. In a new development in this regard, GoAir, the no frills carrier has decided to deploy the semi-robotic-pilot-operated TaxiBots as its choice of towing vehicle at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in New Delhi. Currently, the conventional method dictates that the pilot has to switch on the engine and take the plane to the runaway. Now with the use of TaxiBots, the pilots won’t have to turn on the engine until the time of takeoff, and the TaxiBot will actually tow the plane to the runway. This would ensure faster turn around time and better on-time performance for flights.

GoAir to Deploy TaxiBots Across All Major Airports

About this new development, Mr Jeh Wadia, Managing Director, GoAir, said, “GoAir has always been at the forefront of using technology for the benefit of passengers, environment and the airline’s business. In 2016, GoAir doubled its order for Airbus A320neo (new engine option) to 144 – these aircraft offer approximately 20% better fuel efficiency.” He further added, “Now, it is the time for TaxiBots – GoAir plans to deploy TaxiBots at all the major airports within the next few quarters.”

Airline Expanding Fast Across Domestic and International Destinations

Currently GoAir is one of the prominent low-cost carrier which operators more than 325 flights on major domestic routes like Ahmedabad, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi and more. The airline also has operations on international waters and connects the 7 international destinations of Phuket, Male, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bangkok and Kuwait. Recently, GoAir has also announced the addition of new routes to Singapore. The new flights announced by GoAir will connect Kolkata to Singapore and Bengaluru to Singapore. It will be interesting to see how rapid GoAir adapts the new TaxiBots across all its domestic destinations.
