The troubles for Air India fliers might increase come Friday due to more delays and cancellations. This is because the oil marketing companies which supply jet fuel to Air India have said that they will stop providing fuel to the national carrier starting Friday. As per a new ET report on the matter, these companies will stop providing fuel to Air India at six major airports in the country. The oil companies have threatened that they will stop the fuel supply if lumpsum payments are not made to them as promised. To recall, these companies had sent a notice to the national carrier back on October 5, 2019, too.

Air India to Stop Getting Fuel at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Other Airports

The notice from the oil companies reads, “In the event on non-receipt of monthly lumpsum payment, as has been agreed in the meetings held on 26/08/2019 and 04/09/2019, OMCs will be constrained to stop fuel supplies at six major airports effective October 11, 2019.”

The airports in question, where the oil companies will stop the fuel supply include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. It is worth noting that if the fuel supply is stopped by these companies at the given airports, then the airline is likely to suffer many delays and cancellations, especially for its International flights.

Air India's Outstanding Payment to Oil Companies More than Rs 5,000 Crore

The missive from the company further notes that the airline has been making daily payments which has not brought down the outstanding amount by much and a lumpsum payment is required to do so. In total, the national carrier owes Rs 5,000 crore to these companies and this is not the first time that the companies would be cutting fuel supply to the airline.

Previously, the oil marketing companies had stopped providing fuel to Air India at Pune, Vizag, Cochin, Patna, Ranchi and Mohali airports.
