Uddhav Thackeray To Give Decision On Starting of Hotels In Maharashtra

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the government is planning on giving permission to Hotels and Restaurants to commence their business again. The Hotel and Restaurant businesses are shut throughout the country since the lockdown was imposed. Thackeray also added that they are working on a method to revitalize the sector amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. Chief Minister on a video conference with the Hotel Association Officials asked them to not sack the employees and workers. Thackeray added, "Hotels as well as lodges, which are important industries in the tourism business, have to be allowed with great care before starting. Your industry is two-fold." He further said, there will be a compulsion of undergoing Medical Examination in order to check the health of visitors.

Hotels in Maharashtra to Open Soon

CM assured the association that there will be no obstructive demands by the trade unions during this critical time. About 80% of the Hotel staff are migrants. A representative from Hotel Industry asked for some hotels and restaurants to be allowed to open keeping social distancing in mind.

We too should be seen as Corona Warriors by the Government, said Gurbaxish Singh Kohli. Gurbaxish Singh Kohli is the Director of Pritam Hotels and President of Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India. He also added, almost every industry is laying off their employees. But, we are keeping them and paying them, so that they can eat and live a normal life. We are trying to stand with the government.

Vivek Nair, A member of the Hotels association asked the government to reduce the electricity bills. He also asked the government to provide electricity and water to Hotels at industry rates.

The government statement said the industry is hit with a loss of over rupees six lakhs crore during the lockdown imposed because of COVID-19. There will not be any problem keeping tables and surroundings cleans if they are allowed to open. The tables will be arranged as per the government policies of safe distancing. All the care, safety and security measures will be kept in mind while a family visits a Hotel, said an industry representative.

Currently, the Hotels in Mumbai are under Municipality and are being used as Quarantine facilities.
