UK bans

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the embargo on Aeroflot from British airspace, citing the sanctions as a response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. “Putin will never be able to wipe the blood of Ukraine from his hands," Johnson told Parliament.

The British government announced it will put an asset freeze on some significant Russian banks, including state-owned VTB, Russia's second-largest bank, and prohibit major Russian corporations from raising funds in the UK as part of the 10-point sanctions package.

Speaking to Parliament, Johnson said that Putin will be condemned by the world and history for his invasion and that he would never be able to wash the "blood of Ukraine" off his hands. When announcing the fresh sanctions, he told parliament, "This horrible and brutal venture of Vladimir Putin must end in failure."

"For our part today the UK is announcing the largest and most severe package of economic sanctions that Russia has ever seen."
