Vistara crew members who were flying in Mumbai to Goa flight on March 22, 2020, has been asked to self-quarantine. Vistara issued the order after one passenger travelling in the same flight was tested positive for Covid-19. As a safety measure, Vistara has asked the entire crew member present on the flight to self-isolate themselves as a preventive measure from the deadly virus. The government of Goa released the details of the passengers who had a travel history of New York. The passengers reportedly took the Vistara domestic flight UK861 which departed from Mumbai to Delhi on March 22, 2020.
Air Travel has been Restricted until April 14, 2020
The government of India has implemented 21 days lockdown in the entire nation as a preventive measure from Covid-19. Not only this, but all the domestic and international flights have also been postponed till April 14, 2020. However, Cargo Planes, off-shore helicopter operations and special flights have been given liberty by DGCA to fly for essential tasks. Earlier IndiGo, SpiceJet and Air India have operated rescue flights to different cities to save people from the deadly virus.
Indian Aviation Might Incur 2 Billion Dollars Loss
The Indian Aviation sector is one of the most essential factors in the nation’s GDP. The industry almost contributes 72 Billion dollars to the national GDP. However, Amidst the lockdown period and operational ban, it is expected that the Indian Aviation might report a loss of 1 Billion or 2 Billion Dollars. As a relief, the Indian government might allow domestic flights to operate after April 15, 2020. However, there is no clear picture of the International operations as Europe and the US are still facing trouble because of Covid-19. Also, in case if the lock period extends, the calculated expected loss will increase as domestic flights might not be allowed to operate in the lockdown period.
