American Airlines Will Soon Sell IndiGo’s Tickets in India

Once the codeshare agreement between the companies comes into effect, it will mean that American Airlines customers’ landing in India can board IndiGo flights to travel within the country.

American Airlines (AA) recently announced that it has signed a codeshare agreement with IndiGo, the largest airline company in India. The will allow AA to sell tickets of IndiGo to its customers if they want to travel within the country. As per a PTI report, the codeshare agreement will cover 29 routes of IndiGo. Note that this codeshare agreement between the companies will also require approval from the government’s of both countries.

"The codeshare, which will require U.S. and Indian governments' approvals, is expected to begin in October, as American launches new service between New York (JFK) and Delhi on October 31 this year and between Seattle (SEA) and Bengaluru on January 4, 2022," the joint statement mentioned.

American Airlines Customers Can Travel Via IndiGo Within India

Once the codeshare agreement between the companies comes into effect, it will mean that American Airlines customers’ landing in India can board IndiGo flights to travel within the country. AA will be directly able to sell IndiGo tickets to its customers before they start their travel.

IndiGo seems to be the first choice of every major airline for signing a codeshare agreement when it comes to the Indian market. At present, IndiGo has a one-way codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways and a two-way codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines.

Vasu Raja, Chief Revenue Officer, American Airlines, said: "Whether our customers are travelling for business or pleasure, this new partnership makes it easy to reach all four corners of India."

"Today we're adding 29 new routes to our map as a result of this agreement, providing customers with even more options around the globe," Raja mentioned.

For the unaware, IndiGo currently has a fleet of 275+ aircraft and operates over 1,100 daily flights. The airline also flies to over 24 international destinations.
