Arunachal Pradesh is all set to Fly High! The much awaited air connectivity for Itanagar, is soon going to be a reality. Considering the importance of air connectivity to the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, AAI has undertaken the work of constructing a Greenfield Airport in Hollongi, 15 Kms from Itanagar.
The first full-fledged airport of Arunachal Pradesh is all set to be inaugurated soon. The completion of 'Hollongi Airport' is no less than a feat achieved by AAI, owing to the mostly mountainous terrain of the location.
Hollongi, the Greenfield Airport of Arunachal Pradesh:
Thanks to the team of AAI, who kept citizens continuously updated about the progress of the Airport development in real time.
Built in an area of 685 acres, the estimated cost of the airport is Rs. 660 crore. The airport is suitable for the operations of Airbus-320 type of aircraft. The Hollongi Airport can accommodate 300 passengers during peak hours with eight check-in counters. It is energy-efficient and will run on renewable energy. The runway of the new airport is 2300 mtr. long.
The airport will be licensed for Instrument Flight Rules and will also support for night landing as it is equipped with homing and landing aides like VOR, ILS and Satellite based procedures for landing. Besides these, fire station, Sewage Treatment Plant, medical centre and car parking for 100 cars along with other amenities will also be available.
Remember the question about Night Landing facility at Airports asked in Rajya Sabha? Yeah, the Hollongi airport supports it too.
The building’s envelope is influenced by the surrounding landscapes. Moving away from the strict geometry of straight lines and angles, the roof form is organic and establishes instant connection with the viewer. The building interior is designed to emanate a sense of calm to the passengers. This is achieved by providing free-flowing spaces, hidden service core and a glass façade that links the eye to the panoramic scenic beauty of the Himalayan Foothills.
The airport to connect the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh is a much-needed aspiration of local community, which will also accelerate economic activity in the region.
Arunachal Pradesh, Fly High! We are coming.
