Spirit Airlines Adds New Route to Oakland From San Diego International Airport

Spirit Airlines has announced that beginning May 25, nonstop service would be available between San Diego International Airport (SAN) and Oakland, California through the Metropolitan Oakland International Airport (OAK).

For the first time since 2017, Spirit Airlines is introducing a new route from San Diego International Airport. The low-cost carrier will travel from San Diego to Oakland’s Metropolitan International Airport once a day. Southwest Airlines is the sole airline that flies this route, with 56 weekly flights. President and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, Kimberly Becker, stated, “We appreciate Spirit Airlines growing their service at SAN and providing another option for San Diegans to get to the Bay Area.” Beginning May 25, there will be one daily flight between Oakland and San Diego. Spirit Airlines also provides year-round nonstop service from SAN to Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas, as well as summer seasonal service to Dallas/Fort Worth via Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Houston via George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Chicago via Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), and Detroit via Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). Southwest, as previously stated, is the sole airline that flies between San Diego and Oakland, with nine daily flights. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the airline plans to provide up to 12 daily round trips  between the two cities by the summer.
