Jewar Airport to be India’s Biggest

To win the bid for the biggest airport in India, Zurich has said to pay Rs 400.97 per passenger thus outbidding the other two biggest infrastructure firms in India, Adani and GMR. While Adani bid Rs 360 per passenger, GMR bid Rs 351 per passenger. The nodal agency building the airport, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) will be the one receiving the amount.

Zurich Will Build New Jewar Airport

After this bid, as per Zurich’s statement, it will bring top practices from Switzerland and integrate them with Indian values. It is also worth noting that this is not the first time that Zurich has entered the Indian market. Almost a decade back, the infrastructure firm had entered into a consortium in which it held 17% stake and was involved in the building and maintenance of Bengaluru airport. It was also involved in a tie-up with Essel Infraprojects to bid for the second airport at Goa and also with Hiranandani Group to bid for the new airport in Navi Mumbai.

The Jewar airport will be designed to handle over 70 million passengers per annum with six runways and will be a competitor to the GMR owned Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).
