With P&O Ferries' recent and urgent retrenchment, Wizz Air hopes to take advantage of the situation. The airline sees it as a chance to add experienced transportation sector personnel to its own team. As a result, Wizz Air is encouraging affected workers to participate in a recruiting drive coming up soon.

P&O Ferries, a British ferry company, announced the mass layoff of 800 employees on Thursday. The laid-off ferry workers were allegedly hauled off ships "like criminals" with no warning. Labor unions were outraged by the decision, and protests were held on Friday.

Many of these jobs will now be replaced by lower-cost contract workers, according to P&O. Meanwhile, the business has cancelled all of its ferry crossings between the United Kingdom and continental Europe, causing at least a week of disruption in the flow of people and goods over the English Channel and the North Sea.

Wizz Air is hoping to lessen the impact for some of these employees by providing them job opportunities. The European budget airline published a statement on Friday asking impacted workers to participate in one of its forthcoming open recruiting days and apply for current positions.

"We can only imagine the worry that impacted P&O employees must be feeling right now. Regardless of experience, we encourage those looking for a new job to attend one of our upcoming recruitment events, to learn more about the exciting opportunities we have on offer. -Marion Geoffroy, Managing Director, Wizz Air UK.

The airline claims it encourages applications from people with no prior experience and that permanent positions are available at all four of its UK bases: Gatwick, Luton, Sheffield, and Cardiff.
