Domestic Airlines Performance July 2022: IndiGo leads Market Share, followed by Vistara; Air Asia Tops On-Time Performance

According to the data released by the Aviation Regulator, DGCA, IndiGo leads the Market share among Domestic Airlines, followed by Vistara for the first time in July 2022. IndiGo, India’s leading carrier and the fastest growing low-cost carrier in the world, has a market share of 58.80 per cent, followed by Vistara, India’s finest full-service carrier, with a market share of 10.40 per cent.

Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-July 2022 were 669.54 lakhs as against 393.44 lakhs during the corresponding period of the previous year thereby, registering an annual growth of 70.18 per cent and monthly growth of 93.82 per cent.

All low-cost carriers lost market share, except IndiGo, whose market share increased from 56.90 to 58.80 per cent. The domestic market share of Vistara increased from 9.40 to 10.40 per cent.

Passenger Load Factor: SpiceJet Leads

In the passenger load factor metric, SpiceJet tops in July 2022 with a Passenger Load Factor percentage of 84.7, followed by Vistara with a percentage of 84.3.

On-Time Performance: Air Asia Leads

In the On-Time Performance (OTP) metric of domestic airlines, computed for metro airports viz. Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai, Air Asia tops with a percentage of 95.5, followed by Vistara with a percentage of 89. AirAsia India continued to top the On-Time Performance charts with 89.8% in June 2022 after also leading the OTP in April and May 2022.

Ministry of Civil Aviation to Remove the Airfare Bands From 31 August 2022

On August 11, the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that limits imposed on domestic airfares will be removed from 31 August 2022, giving airlines flexibility on passenger fares.
