The government has increased the lockdown period for two more weeks until May 17, 2020. DGCA after hearing the government’s decision has issued a circular stating that the domestic and international flight operations will be banned until May 17, 2020. However, cargo and select flights approved by DGCA will function with all the safety measures. Also, DGCA will lift the restriction on May 17 if the government will lift the lockdown period and ban from Air travel.
Cargo Flights Will Aid Government
DGCA has clearly stated that cargo flights will be functional amid the lockdown period. Since medical equipment is the prime need of the nation to combat the deadly virus, all the Airlines are doing their part to make sure that medical equipment is supplied to places. Major airlines such as Air India, Vistara and IndiGo have already deployed flights to carry essential supplies. Not only this, but Airlines have also been operating special rescue flights to save people who are stuck at virus affected cities. Government-owned carrier Air India have evacuated people from international destinations which are affected by the deadly virus. It is also expected that the carrier will operate more rescue flight in the lockdown period.
International Operations Might Not Start Soon
Since the threat of Covid-19 is not neutralized around the globe, it is expected that Indian Aviation will start International operations only when Air travel will be safe. Also, domestic operations will function with all the precautionary measures. It is also expected that Airlines will make the middle seat vacant to promote social distancing inside the Aircraft. Also, special arrangements have been made in Airport premises to encourage social distancing and neutralize the threat of Covid-19. Airport staff will also disinfect the Aircraft, which will be used for commercial operations after the lockdown period to ensure that passengers have safe air travel.
