Ranchi Airport to be Closed for 7 Hours Everyday Until January 15, 2021

In a recent development, Ranchi Airport will now be closed every day for 7 hours for the next two months. The reason behind this is the re-carpeting of the runway at the airport. Re-carpeting of the runway is very important because it allows the aircraft to land smoothly at the airport and reduces the chances of an accident. The airport will be closed from 10:15 AM to 5:30 PM every day during which the re-carpeting work would take place. This will continue until January 15, 2021, and was started from November 16, 2020 — more details ahead.

Ranchi Airport to be Closed 7 Hours Daily, New IndiGo Chennai Flight Announced

As per a report from Telegraph, Vinod Kumar Sharma, Director, Birsa Munda International Airport, Ranchi, said that the airport will be functional from 6:45 AM to 10:15 AM (first-half) and will resume the same day again from 5:30 PM to 9:15 PM (second-half).

Following the new winter schedule for flights, as many as 12 domestic flights from GoAir, IndiGo, AirAsia, and Vistara will be operated in the first half of the day, and around 11 flights from the same airlines will be operated in the second half.

Adding to this, a new flight service from the Ranchi airport has been announced as well. This new flight service comes from IndiGo and will connect Ranchi and Chennai. It will be a non-stop flight; thus, passengers from Ranchi won’t have to go through a layover at any other airport saving their precious time.

The first flight to Chennai from Ranchi took place today, i.e., November 18, 2020, at 8:45 AM and reached Chennai airport by 11:15 AM. But before that, the same IndiGo aircraft flew passengers from Chennai at 5:45 AM and reached Ranchi airport by 8:15 AM. A thing worth noting here is that this direct flight facility in the Ranchi-Chennai route is a daily service from IndiGo.

However, the wait for International flights from Ranchi is still ongoing. The Ranchi airport is recognised as an international airport, but it falls short on the basic runway length mandated by the regulators.
