Air India Temporarily Suspends 200 Pilots Due to Coronavirus Outbreak

Indian Aviation Industry has been banned till April 14, 2020, by the government of India because of Covid-19. All domestic and international travel is banned until April 14, 2020. However, cargo planes and recuse flights are exempted from the ban. Due to the lockdown period, the entire aviation industry is facing financial distress. Airline and Airports are facing operational issues. Major airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India is getting less cash inflow. As a result, airlines are slashing the salaries of top management and some airlines are temporarily suspending their employees to save cost. Air India is one of the carriers who has stated that they will temporarily suspend 200 pilots.

Pilots Re-employed After Retirement Will be Suspended

Air India has marked that the pilots who were re-employed after their retirement will be suspended as the carrier is not operating any commercial domestic or international flight. As per the officials, the planes have been grounded because of the precautionary lockdown period, and the revenues of Air India has taken a significant fall. To make sure that Airline stays functional and survive the stressful time, the carrier has temporarily suspended 200 pilots.

Air India Will Slash Allowances of Employees

Air India has also marked that they will slash the allowances of employees to save a major chunk of cash. It is reported that Air India will cut 10 % amount for the next three months to survive and maintain the revenue structure. However, the carrier has stated that cabin crew staff will be exempted from the slash and they will be paid in full for their services. The decision by the government-owned carrier will surely save a lot of money amidst the Covid-19 outbreak, which will help the Airline in future. It is expected that the Airlines will start its domestic and international operations from April 15, 2020.
