Relationship Between Colombia and UAE

The possibility may have risen after the recent ICAO’s Air Service Negotiation Event (ICAN 2021) which took place in Bogota from December 6 to December 10 where the two countries – UAE and Colombia strengthened their relationship. Aeronáutica Civil said in a statement that one of the most crucial outcomes from this event for Colombia was solidifying the commercial relationship with UAE which helps in opening the possibility of new passenger service and connecting the country via Miami.

To begin with, it is expected that both countries could operate seven flights per week between them. After a year of commercial flights, it is a definite possibility that connectivity between the routes can be incremented by up to two flights per day. As of now, there are flights operating between the countries through the US but none of these flights is passenger flights and is only freighter carriers.

Talking about Emirates and Etihad Airways, both the airlines have not yet made any official announcement regarding operating flights to Colombia. However, Colombia’s aviation sector witnessed one of the fastest recoveries from the effects of Covid-19 on a global stage. Among the top twenty country markets in the world, Colombia holds the best recovery capacity and as of now, 8,964 flights are scheduled for the country in the month of December by a total of 25 airlines. Aeronáutica Civil explained that the strengthening of this relationship between the countries is sure to open the possibility of entrance of carriers like Emirates and Etihad. It added that these airlines will dynamize the international market and allow for better and stronger connectivity options.
