India’s finest full-service carrier, Vistara today announced Arc, a new state-of-the-art 3D inflight map application developed by Panasonic Avianoics. This new technology will be a part of airline’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for now. It is worth noting that Vistara will extend the application to its Airbus A321neo aircraft as well in the coming time. What’s interesting is that Vistara is the first airline globally to incorporate this technology on one of its aircraft. It is bound to change the way passengers interact with an in-flight map application — more details on the story ahead.
Vistara Arc Will be Available in All Cabins
Vistara will avail its Arc 3D in-flight map application for passengers seating in all cabin classes. It will be accessible through the overhead monitors, video handsets, seat-back screens, and even on smartphones which are connected to the in-flight Wi-Fi.
Passengers in the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft can now choose from 20 different map views in 4K resolution for several phases of their flight. They will be able to access stunning 3D satellite imagery along with local and global views on the map. Adding to this, they will also be able to see the aircraft’s real-time relative position on the selected map throughout the course of their journey. Vistara also has plans to launch more engaging features for the technology in the future, which will include street map views and kids map in future.
Vinod Kannan, Chief Commercial Officer, Vistara said that the in-flight entertainment system is a critical factor when passengers are travelling in long-flights. Thus this partnership of Vistara with Panasonic is bound to increase passenger satisfaction and the way people interact with in-flight entertainment systems. Arc will offer the airline a whole new medium to interact with its customers.
Vistara is the only airline in India which offers in-flight connectivity to passengers on-board international flights. Its in-flight entertainment system consists of approximately 700 hours of wide-ranging content, including TV shows, movies, and songs of various artists.
