Air India, India's largest airline, has revealed unprecedented interest in its talent augmentation programme, Vihaan.AI, which is a key pillar of its five-year transformation roadmap.

Air India, India's largest airline, has revealed unprecedented interest in its talent augmentation programme, Vihaan.AI, which is a key pillar of its five-year transformation roadmap.

The airline, which had not recruited in non-operations areas in over 15 years, is quickly adding talent in all areas of its business, including Commercial functions such as revenue management, sales, distribution, network planning, and marketing; Business Support Services such as HR, finance, IT, and analytics; and Operations, which includes inflight product design, ground, engineering & airport services, rostering, and operations control.

The airline's aggressive expansion plan, which has already resulted in the return of 17 long-grounded aircraft and the lease-in of 30 narrow- and wide-body aircraft over the next 12 months, necessitates a significant increase in the flying crew.

The first phase of this initiative to supplement talent has been met with resounding success. In the last two months, over 1,752 applications for pilots and 72,000 applications for cabin crew have been received and are being reviewed.

Management postgraduates with three years' experience have shown a strong interest in filling ground-based business roles, with over 25,000 applications received in less than a week. Those chosen will be placed in various functions within Air India, including airport operations, commercial, engineering, and human resources, among others, and will contribute significantly to Air India's internal talent and future leadership pipeline.

With Vihaan.AI focusing on becoming a world leader in information technology, Air India has received over 2,000 applications for a New Tech centre in Kochi, Kerala, including developers, architects, cyber security professionals, programme managers, and UX/ visual designers, among others.
