SriLankan Airlines announced on Monday that it has reinstated the codeshare agreement with American Airlines. The codeshare agreement between SriLankan Airlines and American Airlines is intended to provide travellers with improved connection and travel options across North America and Europe.
With the codeshare arrangement, the SriLankan Airlines code would now be placed on American Airlines flights to US cities such as Miami and New York, which travels via the airline's European points of London and Paris; Los Angeles and Chicago via the airline's hub in London; and Dallas-Fort Worth via the airline's hubs in Paris and Frankfurt.
Dallas-Fort Worth is a new addition to SriLankan Airlines' route network among these US cities. According to the airline, existing codeshare agreements with Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways have provided customers with flight options to the rest of the cities via Doha and Abu Dhabi.
With the arrival of Dallas-Fort Worth, SriLankan Airlines' route network now spans 121 cities in 55 countries. The passengers on SriLankan Airlines will be able to book flights to these US destinations via Europe using the airline's sales channels, according to the company.
Flights to Paris and Frankfurt have recently been restarted by the carrier. According to Richard Nuttall, Acting Chief Executive Officer/Chief Commercial Officer of SriLankan Airlines, the reinstatement of the codeshare partnership will add multiple new sectors and flight options to the airline's growing network, as well as provide passengers with convenient connections to several cities in North America via London, Paris, or Frankfurt.
SriLankan Airlines wins 'World's Leading Airline to the Indian Ocean' title
Meanwhile, SriLankan Airlines, Sri Lanka's national carrier, was named ‘The World's Leading Airline to the Indian Ocean for the second year in a row at the World Travel Awards announced last week.
Since 2016, the National Carrier has won the coveted distinctions. This year at the WTA Asia ceremony, the National Carrier also won the title of ‘Asia's Leading Airline to the Indian Ocean.’
SriLankan Airlines’ prominence in the South Asian region is demonstrated by the award, which is bolstered by its connectivity to nine Indian cities. Other prominent destinations served by the airline include Kathmandu, Dhaka, Karachi, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Lahore.
